DESCRIPTION & ARTIST GUIDELINES:
Art is a powerful force for expression and healing, and many of our service members, veterans, and their family members channel their experiences of service into their art. Our Shaped by Service Art Show, hosted by Warrior's Art Room, celebrates the influence military service has on expressive outlets and the healing power these outlets contain. Each piece tells a story, and as a HFS Storytelling Project event, we encourage all of our artists to tell their stories of service so that they may be shared alongside their art. Artists can indicate their interest in participating in the storytelling component on the registration form.
The Sgt. James G. Wheeler Memorial Art Gallery at Warrior's Art Room is a dedicated exhibition space that honors service and uses art to build community. As part of the nonprofit's mission to provide veterans and their immediate families a free place to create, receive instruction, and publicly display their work, the gallery showcases veteran-made art across all mediums. Located in the Keystone Building at 122 Pleasant St., Suite 105, Easthampton, MA, the gallery anchors Warrior's Art Room studio activity and helps make veteran art visible to the wider public.
The gallery calendar features curated shows, open calls, and artist spotlights, supported by a curator and art-handling team. Regular hours are Monday 5–8, Tuesday 12–4, Wednesday 5–8, and Thursday through Saturday 12–4. Recent programming includes the open-call exhibition "New England Light" and ongoing submission drives via the gallery's social channels. Exhibition receptions and showings invite the public to connect with the stories behind the work, strengthening community ties and support for veterans and their families.
